Set 49

I have not yet decided to title the works I am working on, these are works in progress for a short video. But works are surrounded around the theme of trees and what they mean to me.
I used drawings to real time music (Jazz Mezzo Forte), real time and superimposed these to reference photographs from my library. These are comprised of different textures, dots and depict the shape of the lines done from the sounds of the music.

This is a section from the catalogue on synaesthesia

The art I make is directed towards the sense of hearing/ sound synaesthesia. I present the art I make via the sense of the lyrical aspect that transports the sense to the visual one. One can say, I see an image of the music heard and often the image may be a moving one. Sight is that enables me to hear sound through the artwork. The sense of sight carries with it the sense of hearing. The drawings, partly realistic part abstract, carry with them the inner voice, the hidden. My drawings are mostly a result of an intuitive reaction to the music and are done in real time to the sound. My experience of listening to sound is that I see corresponding colours, shapes, textures line and form. Each colour represents a physical attribute as well as an emotional one, which I meditate upon during the drawing process. Loudness and tempo also play a role in how I perceive sound. I am also able to see colours and shapes from hearing sounds such as bird calls and animal sounds and being in close proximity to nature. The sounds evoke smells, tastes and sensations of touch. The process has many transformations from an image to sound and each new image is created from its predecessor. Synaesthesia is an inner world where shapes appear to have sound and smells have tastes.

Nature Art Exhibition

One of my art works (Below) was selected for a special merit award recently.
See website: http://www.lightspacetime.com/nature-art-exhibition-special-merit-category/

This came from many hours of observing leopards in the wild, especially when I had a chance to do so alone and undisturbed. Truly magical animals. Of course it was also painted entirely to music.

Patterns in Nature - Abstract Art

I'm fascinated with patterns I see in trees. I have used the images which include photographs and drawings in a frenzy of rock and roll music to Deep Purple and Santana.
Here are some of the works.

Visual Music - Abstract - Freedom Series

I have worked on a series of acrylic based paintings which I titled "Freedom" a loose term to describe the basic sentiment behind them. All the works were done to Deep Purple's music, a band I've admired and their musicianship for decades. No matter how many times I've heard the songs, no art work yielded the same results, including the inner experience differs each time. As always I painted to the rhythm which also meant working quite fast.

The method of the Dots

In this piece I worked with fine coloured dots to fill an area. The dots are evoked by music (Drawing real time) and the colours represent areas of the body and the psyche.

The method is based on the Sefirotic Tree of Life a comprehensive study that is out of the scope here.

The divine Sefirot and their allegorical colours are as follows from the top:-

1.       Crown/Keter a blinding invisible light. The sefirot of the Intellect.
2.       Wisdom/Chochma- includes all colours.
3.       Understanding/Binah – Yellow and green
4.       Loving kindness/Chesed –White/silver
5.       Strength/Judgement/Gevurah – Red/Gold
6.       Beauty/Mercy/Tiferet –Yellow and violet
7.       Eternity/Victory/Netzach – Light pink
8.       Splendour/Humility/Hod – Dark pink
9.       Foundation/Connection/Yesod – Orange green
10.   Kingdom/Physical realm/Malchut – Indigo

The dots in the study are also useful for both internal and background aspects in drawings

Colorized Tree Trunk

I came about a most Intriguing olive tree trunk and decided to colorize the inner qualities, this was the result.

I used colours that correspond to the ten Sefirot where each colour represents an inner and outer part of the body, so it is a meditative piece as well to Jazz music.

Point Technique in visual music

Samples of the point technique used to music.
These are meditative techniques using jam sessions for relaxation. The meditative focus
is on the four elements found in Nature, and also on colours representing life force
energy points in the body.
